MUSIC: David Bowie should bring album to Coachella 2013

Dear David Bowie,

Happy Birthday! I’m glad you’re celebrating your 66th trip around the sun with new music.

Your new album, “The Next Day,” is arriving in the U.S. on March 12. March is the month before April, which happens to be when the twin Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festivals take place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio (April 12-14 and April 19-21). I think you and Iman would really enjoy a trip to the Coachella Valley for the spring.

You could take your photo with the Lucille Ball statue in Palm Springs or go buy many lovely scarves on El Paseo in Palm Desert. Don’t forget about the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and Shields Date Gardens, either. At Shields you can have a tasty date shake and see the educational film “Romance and Sex Life of a Date.” Trust me, it’s not any weirder than “The Man Who Fell to Earth.”

Would you consider making the collective dream of tens of thousands of music fans come true? Will we finally live the impossible dream of David Bowie on the Coachella 2013 lineup? I mean, you don’t have to play “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” in its entirety. Heck, I’d be cool with some Tin Machine. And if you’re really feeling festive, maybe we could look into procuring a hologram Bing Crosby.

You know, it’s just that we think you’re really, really great and you’re one of a kind. I mean, you inspired probably 90 percent of all bands who have ever played Coachella. Plus, it would be kind of awesome to dance in the moonlight, the serious moonlight, among the palm trees at the foot of the Santa Rosa Mountains to a soundtrack of “Young Americans” leading into “Rebel Rebel.”

If you want to know more about it, ring up Paul McCartney. Macca enjoyed his time so much in 2009 that he keeps coming back as a fan.

With warm regards and California sunshine,

Vanessa
