COACHELLA 2013: Johnny Marr and his guitar

Johnny Marr rocked out in the Mojave Tent to kick off the opening day of the 2013 Coachella Festival.

He also wins for Mr. Congeniality.

“Nice to see you Friday afternoon and all that,” he said after playing The Smiths classic “Stop Me if You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.”

After playing some solo tunes he turned back to The Smiths, an often asked for reunion by Coachella fans.

COACHELLA 2013: How to charge your phone at Fest

One of the big improvements I’ve noticed at Coachella 2013 is the number of charging stations available for smartphones.

There are a couple of different ways to charge. If you have brought your phone charger with you, there is a kiosk between Gobi and Mojave that can accommodate 256 phones.

COACHELLA 2013: An afternoon with Justin Vernon and Jake Bugg

After going on more than 25 minutes late, The Shouting Matches, the blues band of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, finally got things going in the Gobi Tent Friday afternoon.

The band’s album is coming out Tuesday. I loved the organ, Spencer Davis meets Booker T sound, I just wished they had stuck to the schedule.

COACHELLA 2013: Waiting for The Shouting Matches

I’ve been at Coachella 2013 for less than three hours and I’m already seeing amazing things.

One of the most amazing is that the Shouting Matches, the blues rock project of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, finally started its set in the Gobi Tent. Actually, 20 minutes after it was supposed to start, they still seem to be sound-checking.
